It’s Good For Something

The evile which is My Space has revealed a couple of things to me. Most of the people I went to high school with are married and have several children. (They’ve also remained in the same neighborhood in which we were raised.) I never wanted either. It’s actually kind of baffling to me. These facts only serve as another reminder of how different from them I really [still] am.
Also, nearly everyone that called me homophobic names in high school turned out to be gay. (Hello pot, this is kettle.) Although I try so hard to take the high road, that gave me a nasty little smirk, I confess. I knew it. I just knew.

BAMF!

Last Friday, we had a particularly difficult applicant. He was mad about: the 3 - 5 day processing time (because he had to be out of his current residence before Monday because his girlfriend got a restraining order against him - *ahem* RED FLAG), the non-refundable application fee, the rent amount for the property, the security deposit amount, the fact that his poor credit/rental/employment history caused the owner to request first and last month’s rent up front… it went on and on and on. The owner decided to reject his app. That really got the guy going and I was, unfortunately, the one that had to take the brunt of his rantings. (He dropped by the office multiple times a day to shout at us about how ridiculous and unfair this situation was, he called literally hourly- hanging up on me each time.) Each time he left, everyone was exclaiming about what a raving hothead he was.
So, I suppose that it should come as no surprise to hear on the news that he was shot 5 times last night after an altercation at a bar. The cops are still sorting it all out, but the video clip says that if he lives, he may be arrested for discharging a firearm and/or carrying one without a permit.

“I’m A Soldier”

Spin is streaming one of the new Afghan Whigs songs here; just press the play button. Yes, new… they hooked up and recorded a couple of tunes for the Rhino retrospective cd coming out in May. There’s some old favourites on it too :)

Who/What Is That?

Who or what is that… watching over me, looking out for me? I’ve gotta wonder.
Mama is ok. Miraculously, when they opened her up, they found the scar tissues/blockage was not as long as they thought from her images. So, they cut it out and put the two ends back together. That’s a helluva lot less traumatic than grafting something out of another body part. (Ick.)
They’re going to keep her doped up and sleeping most of the day, so I’ll pop in to see her tomorrow. She’ll probably be on a morphine drip for a while and pretty loopy, but hey, she’s alive. Again. This was her fifth operation. She’s been critically ill and in and out of the hospital since July. (Stunning, considering we were initially told she wouldn’t make it 12 hours.)
As you can imagine these many months have taken a toll on me. There’s no sparkle left in my eye. No mischievous grin. Though I am amazed at the will to live, I am more cynical about life in general, as a whole. I hope that is temporary and that my outlook changes as Mom gets better - completely better, right?
Sincere thanks for all your thoughts, prayers, wishes. Means a lot.
